Who we are

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 120 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado.

Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

Your responsibilities

  • Initiate and develop an R&D stream focused on micro-assembly and integration of fabricated components into experimental targets for in-house use.
  • Characterization, metrology and quality control of assembled targets, to verify that the target specifications are met.
  • Develop and optimize bonding and adhesive processes for micro-precision target component assembly.
  • Coordinating multi-partner consortia and associated reporting: build and maintain collaborations with academic and industrial partners.
  • Drafting of public funding applications.
  • Mentor junior scientists and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Documentation and reporting: write and oversee technical and safety documentation, protocols development, and contribute to internal, external, and funding-body reports.

What you bring

  • 8+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field, with demonstrated seniority in an R&D environment.
  • Experience in micro-assembly or sub-micrometric precision integration of multi-material components at micro scale (e.g. micro-/nano-manipulator, FIB, pick-and-place systems).
  • Experience with metrology and characterization techniques, and quality control for assembled targets, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical or confocal microscopy, and computer tomography (CT).
  • Experience with bonding techniques for target components using methods such as micro-soldering and different bonding processes (e.g. adhesive, eutectic, or diffusion bonding).
  • Practical experience working with processes under inert atmosphere for sensitive or reactive materials.
  • Experience working in ISO-classified cleanroom environments.
  • A track record leading or contributing to multi-partner research or industrial collaborations.
  • Experience leading or contributing to public funding applications, with a track record of awarded proposals.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior scientists and engineers in an experimental environment with evolving priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical writing for proposals and reports.

What sets you apart

  • Experience in fusion, plasma physics, inertial confinement fusion (ICF), or energy systems.
  • Familiarity with lab automation and the development of novel fabrication processes.
  • Experience with cryogenic target fabrication or handling of cryogenic components.
