Compliance Expert and Deputy MLRO

About the role:

Are you passionate about compliance and building an ethical, risk-aware culture? Do you enjoy finding problems before they become issues and fixing them for good?

We're looking for a Compliance Expert to join our Compliance team, reporting to our Senior Director of Compliance. You'll gain broad exposure to every part of Billie's Compliance Program, help ensure we meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and act as Billie's Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (Deputy MLRO) - playing a key role in the fight against financial crime.

In more detail you will:

• Identify and remedy compliance deficiencies to keep Billie aligned with all applicable laws and regulations.

• Strengthen our governance systems, internal controls, policies, guidelines, and training programs.

• Prepare regulatory submissions, internal compliance reports, and risk analyses.

• Help improve our audit and compliance processes, and lead strategic projects for the team.

• Act as a key point of contact for our Internal Auditor, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders — including supporting audits and due diligence requests.

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive financial crime and regulatory risk management framework to identify, monitor, and mitigate risk.

• Supervise and conduct independent reviews of business processes.

• Develop and execute engaging educational sessions to promote regulatory awareness across teams.

• Draft clear, actionable reports and recommendations on irregularities and corrective measures.

• Partner closely with senior leadership to advise on policy, new product launches and procedure changes.

• Help safeguard Billie against money laundering and terrorist financing as Deputy MLRO.

Who we are looking for:

• 3+ years of experience in auditing, compliance, financial law, AML, risk management, or risk controlling.

• A completed degree in law, business administration, and/or economics — ideally with a focus on compliance, risk management, or a related field.

• Strong working knowledge of German and European regulatory frameworks, including the KWG, ZAG, GwG, and MaRisk.

• Solid project management skills and a track record of driving initiatives from start to finish.

• A highly motivated, ‘can-do’ mindset with a knack for creative problem-solving.

• Fluency in German and professional proficiency in English.

• Pluses: Familiarity with process flows at a FinTech or other regulated financial institution and Prior AML or financial crime experience
