Senior Software Simulation Engineer (d/f/m)

As part of the Future Capabilities Simulation team in Germany, you are not just developing simulators —you are developing the platforms of the future. Our mission is centered on pushing the boundaries of what is possible in aerospace simulation, beyond usual R&D. We focus on "Next-Gen" capabilities, exploring how emerging technologies can redefine training and engineering environments.

You will work in a high-autonomy R&D environment, moving from theoretical concepts to functional, high-fidelity, distributed real-time applications. This role is designed for a "Full-Stack" Engineer: someone who is as comfortable designing a low-level C++ physics model as they are in architecting a cloud-native deployment pipeline or a distributed network protocol.

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Lead the architectural design of next-generation software components, moving from "proof of concept" to scalable, production-ready simulation frameworks.
- Develop complex, high-performance simulation models (C++) and the supporting software ecosystem.
Design and implement the communication layers for distributed real-time applications, ensuring low-latency data exchange across complex networks.
Build and maintain modern CI/CD pipelines and leverage virtualization (Containers/VMs) to ensure seamless deployment across diverse hardware environments.
Create sophisticated developer tools, including code generators and automated testing frameworks, to accelerate the R&D lifecycle.
Actively participate in the full lifecycle —from requirements engineering to integration and acceptance testing— using modern Processes, Methods and Tools (PMT) and agile methodologies.

Desired skills and qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
5+ years of proven professional experience in the Industry, in a complex software environment, with a strong focus on simulation or real-time systems.
Expert C++: Deep understanding of modern C++ (C++17/20), memory management, and real-time constraints.
Proficiency in Python for automation, data analysis, and tool development.
Experience with Qt/QML for interfaces or Go for backend services is a plus.
Proven ability to design modular, extensible, and maintainable software architectures.
Strong grasp of networking protocols essential for distributed real-time systems.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Virtual Machines to manage simulation environments.
Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.).
Mastery of Git and experience working in distributed teams using modern collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
A "test-first" mindset, with experience in Unit, Integration, and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) as well as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
Proactive attitude is an absolute must.
Fluency in English. German and/or Spanish are a plus.
